Paroxysmal hemicrania (PH) is a type of one-sided headache lasting 2-30 minutes. The attacks are frequent and occur many times during the day, and the pain is usually of high intensity, recurrent and short-lasting.
The treatment plan first covers emergency measures at the symptomatic level, such as a triptan or oxygen, and then preventive medicines. For preventive control, medicines such as topiramate and indometacin are particularly effective.
Peripheral nerve blocks may be used in selected cases to reduce the intensity of the pain.
